History of the W160

The W160 Mercedes-Benz GLA launched in 2013 as the marque's answer to the growing demand for premium compact SUVs.

Development began in 2010 with Mercedes engineering a new segment by adapting A-Class platform technology into an SUV-bodied package.

The GLA debuted at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show to immediate acclaim, offering turbocharged efficiency and genuine off-road capability.

Production concluded in 2019 after seven years, making way for the larger, more advanced W247 GLA generation.
